Public Meeting on Town Centres

We have 5 town centres in Wandsworth (Balham, Clapham Junction, Putney, Tooting, Wandsworth town), each with different characteristics, with their merits and short comings.

The Wandsworth Society is organizing a discussion of what can be done. The meeting will take the form of asking the members what they think of the five main town centres as defined in the Borough plan, why they are used, how they could be improved, means of access etc.
A panel will try to deal with answers as appropriate. After the main section of the meeting, it is expected to throw the meeting open to the floor to ask questions of the Society what else they do, who they consult and to answer any other matters on which clarification is required.
The panel will be formed of people from the planning group and those who have expertise in either town planning, transport or some other speciality.
It has no connection with the project promoted by the Council. The object of the evening is to ask members for their views and try to explain how the different areas of the Borough work.

Venue:

Thursday 14th February – 8pm

West Side Church, corner of Melody Road and Allfarthing Lane, SW18

  1. anymore ideas about 150th Birthday of the opening of Clapham Junction Station?
Have you been informed if anything is happening in or around the station?
It’s less than 4 weeks away! On the 1st saturday of March. I hope signs will be placed around the area?
Regards to the new exit at Clapham Junction ( st.johns hill. ) I wrote & called TfL about having the first stop on 344 bus route, stop at the bus stop opposite Project Orange Public House but they said they would consider it. Also I spoke to someone on Wandsworth councils transport committee but that was 2years ago. Nothing has happened.
You were saying in your newsletter about buses not going round/allowing people to alight at Termination point at Mayrick Arms now renamed (Grant Road,Falcon Road) again I wrote to TfL back in 2002, and have been complaining ever since then; on a yearly basis and they refused on grounds of health & safety; even though their is a safe drop off point there!
    [ I know that the 35, C3, 295 all refuse to take passengers. ]
I have in the past had massive shouting matches with bus drivers over this. As I live opposite and as I am disabled don’t want to get another bus in-order to go 1 stop!
Please put these issues in your next newsletter. Start naming and shaming the so-called “jobs worths” who refuse to do things that are clearly common sense.
On to a lighter subject. I Just heard it! Big Ben, yet I live over 3miles away! In Falcon Grove.
Guess the strong wind helped blow the sound down the river to where I live!
Last time I heard it strike 5am was last summer.
    Sincerely yours

    • Regarding the 150th Anniversary, I have just published an update from the CJTCP board meeting yesterday as it was discussed:
      http://cjag.org/2013/02/08/cjtcp-meeting-7-february-2013-feedback/
I cannot recall anything about “buses not going round/allowing people to alight at Termination point at Mayrick Arms” in our newsletters… Isn’t it someone else newsletter? Another organisation? Society?
The next NL (in a couple of days hopefully) is already quite long, but we could have a look at the issue for the next ones.
