Crossrail2 update: consultation on Chelsea station, Southgate and Hackney

Following feedback from last year’s consultation, there are some variations for the Crossrail 2 route through Chelsea, Dalston, Hackney and New Southgate. Proposed changes are:

  • The location of a station in Chelsea
  • An extension from Alexandra Palace to New Southgate
  • The route alignment in Dalston and Hackney

2009-2014: Clapham Junction station improvements

An artist's impression of the new Brighton Yard entrance at Clapham Junction station which will provide step-free access into the station and better facilities, and help reduce congestion in  the station subway.For those who remember the proposal to build two skyscrapers at Clapham Junction station in 2009, it is also interesting to look again at the arguments used by the developers:

Scale model of the twin towers at Clapham JunctionThe proposals will help regenerate the Town Centre and will transform the station. This is once in a life time opportunity, it the plans are not supported we will face years of continued dreadful conditions at the station.

In May 2009, the proposal was withdrawn, with the help of the hundreds local residents who sent more than 700 letters of objection to the Council, and signed petitions to refuse the scheme.

So, as the developers warned, has the station been doomed since the failure of their plan, and left in a derelict state? Not at all, this is actually the opposite that happened. Lets see below all the improvement that we saw in the pas 5 years, and even more to come. Continue reading

Platform 17 will be extended and barrier entrance enlarged

Network Rail has submitted its plan for platform extension and associated development to Platform 17 of Clapham Junction Station (including enlarging the barrier entrance to the under-path)  as part of the West London Line platform extension programme (P.A. 2013/5208). Continue reading

Grant road entrance: Brand new and already dysfunctional?

Clapham Junction station entrance on Grant Road had major refurbishment in 2012 in order to accommodate the overground line extension. 6 months later, the new lift to give a step free access to the platforms is no longer working and the help/ticket desk is desperately closed!

New update on the train connection to Heathrow

It’s on. It’s off. It’s on again.

For the last 5 years we have heard about possibilities of a new direct rail service from Clapham Junction to Heathrow. Then it was abandoned in 2011 for lack of any funding and set of priorities. Now according to a press release published by the Council in February 2013, Wandsworth was  set to appoint a transport consultancy to develop the case for the train-link. Continue reading
